The great thing about mushrooms is that they do not need sunlight. While they do need a little light, mushrooms actually prefer dark, shady areas. This makes them a great choice if you don’t have an outdoor space, or are trying to maximize a small space by making use of areas that don’t get enough sun to grow anything else
The downside is that they can be harder to grow than other plants. If you do a web search for how to grow mushrooms you will find complicated instructions that typically involve sterilized petri dishes and expensive lab equipment, but it doesn’t have to be this way.
There are some fabulous and experienced mushrooms growers out there who have discovered which varieties are easiest to grow and techniques to grow them that don’t require all that fancy equipment. There are even grow kits available that require little more than a daily water spritz to start producing mushrooms.
